Two separate three-car crashes delay traffic north of Wellington
Commuters on both highways out of Wellington have been plagued by delays after two separate three-car collisions on Thursday afternoon.
Northbound motorists on SH 1 along the Kāpiti Coast were warned to expect delays after three cars collided in a nose-to-tail crash.
Police were called to the scene about three kilometres north of Pukerua Bay at 3.30pm, along the northbound coastal road.
No-one was injured in the crash, but the cars were partially blocking the lane, police said.

The cars were moved into a layby and the road was cleared about 4pm, allowing traffic to pass.
Initial delays were put at 35 minutes, but were revised to 20 minutes by about 4.30pm.
Nearly an hour later, three cars heading south on State Highway 2 collided in a bumper-to-bumper crash, near the Petone off-ramp.
The incident occurred at about 5.15pm, and again nobody was injured, police said.
One car required a tow, but both lanes were open.
However, southbound traffic was backed up as far as Seaview about 6.20pm, and motorists were advised to expect delays as congestion eased.
NZTA reported that congestion on both highways had cleared just before 7pm, but reports from Wellington commuters suggested traffic was still backed up on the urban motorway.
One commuter reported traffic backed up all the way to the Terrace Tunnel.
