Motorists are being warned to expect "significant delays" after a crash near the northwestern motorway.

One person received moderate injuries after a two-car crash on an on-ramp to Auckland's northwestern motorway.

Motorists were warned to expect "significant delays" after the crash on the Lincoln Rd on-ramp about 6.30am on Thursday.

Both police and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said the on-ramp was blocked as a result.

The NZTA advised citybound motorists to delay their journey or consider using an alternative route due to "significant delays".

Police said the northwestern motorway was down to two lanes in the area and also warned motorists to expect "significant delays".

At 7.20am, the NZTA said all lanes on the on-ramp were open and for motorists to allow extra time citybound.

A St John spokeswoman said one patient in a moderate condition was taken to North Shore Hospital's emergency department.
