White nationalist group vandalises Nelson MP Nick Smith's electorate office

"White supremacist rubbish" plastered over the electorate office of Nick Smith has disgusted the Nelson MP. 

The vandalism was discovered on Wednesday at Smith's office on Waimea Rd, where both the office building and signage were defaced and posters plastered over top. 

Action Zealandia claimed responsibility for the incident, posting on Twitter that activists had placed "promotional materials" at Smith's office. They referred to the MP as "a member of the traitorous National Party". 

Smith described the material as "white supremacist rubbish".

"I am disappointed these ugly extremist views, that have been on the rise internationally, are showing up in New Zealand and now Nelson. We must reassert our core Kiwi values of respect for all people regardless of their ethnicity or faith," Smith said.

The material included anti-Chinese sentiments, exhortations against degeneracy, and the promotion of New Zealand's European identity. 

Smith said the incident came as a surprise to him, as he had not witnessed any similar displays during his 30 years in Nelson. 

"This attack just makes me more determined to champion the values of all people being treated equally regardless of their ethnicity. National was founded as a political party for all New Zealanders, young and old, urban and rural and of all ethnicities and faiths. National is proud of having New Zealand's first Chinese, Korean and Filipino MP's representing all New Zealanders.

"The ideology being promoted here is similar to that of the Nazis that our grandparents defeated 75 years ago and that were espoused by the terrorist in the mosque attack in Christchurch last year. I have reported it to police because security agencies need to keep a close eye on people with these sorts of extremist views."

An Action Zealandia spokesman said the specific actions were taken because the National Party was "the most compromised political party in New Zealand".

"It isn't hard to see National is compromised and controlled due to their actions (or inaction) in the previous government," the spokesman said. 

"Their refusal to do anything about Chinese investors during the height of the housing crisis, their refusal to do anything about mass migration, and National prioritising trade with China over human rights concerns all point to a government totally in bed with the Chinese Communist Party."

On their website, Action Zealandia described themselves as "a movement of young nationalists dedicated to the revitalisation of our people, culture, environment and community".

As well as promoting European identity, the group is also critical of excessive materialism, consumerism, and the influence of multinational corporations.
