Busy weekend for the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter
Multiple calls had the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter team in overdrive on Saturday.
The first call was in the wee hours on Saturday morning to the Central Plateau, to transport a woman with a medical condition to Rotorua Hospital.
This was followed by another call in the area this time to National Park Village where a man involved in a car crash was transported to Rotorua Hospital with leg injuries.
Just after dark, the helicopter was sent to the Central Plateau again – this time a man had slipped on ice and sustained spinal injuries.
He was transported to Rotorua Hospital as well.
Overnight flight conditions through clear skies were relatively bumpy at times, with winds around the mountain at flight altitudes registering in excess of 200kph, the duty pilot said.
On Sunday, the helicopter was sent to Mangaotaki in the King Country for a young man who had fallen from his trail bike.
He was flown to Waikato Hospital.
