One dead after car and train collide near Levin
A person was killed when a car and train collided in Horowhenua.
The crash happened about 9.30am on State Highway 1 south of Levin, near Ohau.
Kiwirail general manager Todd Moyle said 121 passengers remained on the train as police completed their investigation.
Moyle said their north-bound Northern Explorer was the train involved and there were no reports of injuries to passengers or crew.
It was delayed at the site for some time before being allowed to travel on at 12.20pm to Auckland.
Moyle said the closure would have caused some delays to freight services.
A police spokeswoman said the driver of the car died at the scene and the road remained open, but Bishop Rd was closed to some traffic.
The police serious crash unit is investigating.
