A body was discovered at Piha Beach on Wednesday (file photo).

A body has been discovered on a wild Auckland west coast beach.

The body was discovered by a member of the public at Piha Beach in West Auckland on Wednesday morning.

A police spokeswoman said officers were notified just before 7am.

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the person, and the matter had been referred to the coroner.

Piha is one of Auckland's most popular beaches and is about 40km west of the city centre.
