'Brave' woman fights off sex attacker in Avon Park, Christchurch
A woman was forced to the ground before fighting off her assailant in a sexually-motivated attack in a Christchurch park.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson said the 23-year-old woman was walking through Avon Park about 6.15pm on Sunday when a man attacked her.
The woman, who was on her way home, ran to a nearby address after fighting off the attacker, Anderson said.
"She's pretty shaken up, but she's very lucky considering what could well have happened to her, so she's been a brave women in fighting off her attacker and running for help."
He said the man's actions during the attack "made it quite clear that it was a sexually-motivated attack".
"I think she briefly noticed him before the attack."
Police examined the scene on Monday morning.
The offender was described as in his mid-20s to mid-30s, tall, with a skinny build and olive skin. He wore a dark jacket and dark hoody.
