Former Hastings District Council employee alleged to have defrauded council
A former Hastings District Council employee is facing 14 charges of fraud in a case understood to involve hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The employee, who ceased working for the council this year, was granted interim name suppression when they appeared in Hastings District Court last week.
The alleged offending started in 2004.
The 14 charges involve the employee allegedly using a tax invoice or statement with the intent to dishonestly obtain a pecuniary advantage.
Each charge carries a maximum sentence of up to seven years in jail.
The employee will appear in court again later this month.
The council refused to answer questions.
