Police urging Tawa and Paraparaumu residents to be vigilant following increase in burglaries
Police are urging Tawa and Paraparaumu residents to be vigilant following an escalation in burglaries.
Porirua police Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson said the last few months had seen an increasing amount of burglaries from cars and homes in those areas
Officers had made arrests, but there was a growing need for vigilance from residents to prevent further escalation.
"We're noticing a lot of those could be avoidable by people placing valuable items out out of view, locking vehicles and houses," Ferguson said.
"People engaged in helping themselves is the first barrier to these criminals.
"A lot are opportunists - if they're provided with the opportunity say an unlocked car or a laptop in plain view."
