Pot plants no match for green-fingered, sticky-fingered vandals

FORBES PANEL AND PAINT

Who are these people who damaged planter boxes outside Forbes Panel and Paint.

The late-night gardening antics of five young "scumbags" have been caught on camera.

Video surveillance at Forbes Panel and Paint, in Blenheim, shows a group of young people walking through the property and ripping pot plants from their new planters.

Owner Shaun Forbes had a message for the culprits.

"Feel free to drop the plants back in, scumbags, before we give the video to police," he said.

Shaun Forbes has boosted the surveillance cameras at his Blenheim business to help catch lawbreakers.

Following a serious assault close to the Nelson and Hutcheson St roundabout, police had recently asked Forbes to extend the scope of his cameras to take in the intersection, which he had done.

"We've got pretty wide coverage now," he said.

The video showed the culprits entering the property from Nelson St and leave through Hutcheson St.

A few months prior to this incident, Forbes' son had parked his freshly painted Mazda Demio at the site while it was for sale.
