Labour leader Jacinda Ardern may not be talking with NZ First's Winston Peters just yet, but her partner is.

After the election both Labour and National would be looking to strike a coalition deal with Peters' party - however the NZ First leader was playing his cards close to his chest.

Following on from when Peters famously went fishing after the 1996 elections, Clarke Gayford, who hosted a fishing TV show, tweeted advice to him on how to get the best catch on Sunday.

"Fish into the low tide at 4:45pm. Light variables from favourable W direction, check water temp, spring Snapper spawn close", Gayford tweeted.
