Buller and Westland: Rain, with heavy falls and isolated thunderstorms easing to a few showers this evening.

Wednesday: North Island, a few showers in the west. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, rain in the west, with heavy falls possible. Scattered rain developing in the south.
Thursday: North Island, Rain developing, possibly heavy in central and southern areas, turning to showers in the north later. South Island, Rain for most places, with heavy falls about the ranges. Easing to a few showers in the west and south. Snow lowering to 400 metres in the south and east.
Friday: North Island, Rain or showers for most places, clearing north of Taranaki to East Cape except for a few showers in Northland. South Island, Rain in the east easing to a few showers and retreating to the Kaikoura Coast, becoming fine and frosty elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: A few showers on Wednesday, then mainly fine Thursday, with strong northwesterlies developing. Rain and strong southeasterlies developing on Friday.
