Flights out of Nelson cancelled due to fog
All-day fog has led to some incoming as well as outgoing flights being cancelled at Nelson Airport.
Nelson was enveloped in fog on Monday morning.
Nelson Airport terminal supervisor Simon Trillo said on Monday at 5:30pm that a Jetstar aircraft was circling around Nelson wanting to land, but with no luck.
"They can't get in, the fog is a bit too low.
"We're open, but it's up to the pilots. It is what it is, it's unfortunate, but it happens at this time of year."
It had lifted a bit for a few hours mid-day, but covered the city again in the afternoon.
According to Nelson Airport's website, a departing Air New Zealand flight to Wellington at 5pm was cancelled, as well as an Air New Zealand flight leaving for Christchurch at 6:10pm and another departing to Auckland at 6:35pm.
At 5:20pm all other flights from both Air New Zealand and Jet Star were on schedule.
Arriving Air New Zealand flights from Christchurch at 5:05pm and from Auckland at 5:40pm were cancelled and some other flights were delayed.
Some flights earlier in the day were cancelled as well, including three Air New Zealand flights to Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland between 12:30pm and 1:10pm.
The MetService weather forecast said fine spells were increasing on Monday afternoon with southwest winds.
