St John was called to a home in Dick Rd, Portobello, after three people, including two children, were found struggling to breathe.

Three people were taken to Dunedin Hospital after they found struggling to breathe.

Emergency services were called to the Otago Peninsula township of Portobello about 8.10am on Thursday.

St John paramedicsĀ treated a 62-year-old man, a 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl at a property on Dick Rd.

It is understood the three were struggling to breathe, and were taken to Dunedin Hospital.

Both St John and Fire and Emergency New Zealand declined to comment further.

Witnesses said they saw several police cars heading to the scene. Police confirmed they were later stood down.

The trio's injuries were minor, a St John spokesman said.
