People, we need your votes
A Southland high school band is asking people to get busy and hit the phones this weekend to help them secure a national people's choice award in this year's Smokefree Rockquest.
The Dense, made up of James Hargest College musicians Liam Fairbairn, 17, Jack Shaw, 18, and Nepia Ruwhiu, 16, is on a winning streak but need an extra hand to get them over the line.
The trio, who play alternative rock, and take inspiration from another Southland band Pretty Wicked Head and the Desperate Men, won the Southland regional head of the rockquest earlier this year.
From that final 20 bands were asked to submit a video, from there judges put eight bands forward to the national finals. However, the ninth place, of the national finals, is picked from a people's choice award.
This is where The Dense needs a hand.
It is a contender in the people's choice and is sitting at third place, but as band member Jack Shaw says, more votes would be appreciated.
To vote for the band people need to text thedense5678 for votes to be registered.
If The Dense make it to the national finals they will have eight minutes to perform two songs.
Voting closes at 11pm on Sunday.
