Eastern Suburbs have confirmed that New Zealand under-17 coach Danny Hay will replace Malcolm McPherson at the helm for the upcoming ISPS Handa Premiership.

In a statement issued on the Auckland club's website, Eastern Suburbs have confirmed that McPherson has resigned from his position as head coach with immediate effect.

"Malcolm has extensive business interests and a young family, and was starting to feel that time pressures could dictate that he may not be able to do justice to the coaching role," the statement read.

"He made the decision now to allow his replacement to undertake the preseason build up. "

Hay, a former All Whites captain and current New Zealand under-17 coach, said the role at Eastern Suburbs "fitted perfectly" with his ambitions to further test himself as a coach, having spent 10 years in the school arena with Sacred Heart College.

Eastern Suburbs were the best performing expansion side last season, finishing fifth place with a record of nine wins, three draws and six defeats.
