A winger in the second division of French rugby left the referee with little choice after a horror mid-air collision.

In a ProD2 match between Mont-de-Marsan and Soyaux Angouleme, a routine box kick was hoofed into the sky and Lucas Caeda gave chase.

Unfortunately Caeda was a second late to the ball and ended up crashing into Julien Cabannes at full speed.

The Mont-de-Marsan winger was sent spiralling to the ground and landed on his head. Caeda was also left flatted by the collision and appeared to know instantly he was at fault as team-mates rushed to Cabannes' aid.

Once both players received treatment, the referee wasted little time in reaching to his pocket for a red card for Caeda, while Cabannes was unable to carry on and subsituted.

Mont-de-Marsan went on to win 38-12.
