A New Plymouth man, wanted by police on an outstanding warrant, was tasered after he allegedly assaulted officers during a late night incident in the city on Thursday.

Police were called to a Westown address and attempted to arrest the 26-year-old who was wanted on breaching bail conditions and other offences.

When police went to arrest the man around 10.30pm he assaulted the officers and was tasered, New Plymouth Police acting Sergeant David Lee said.

The man will appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Friday charged with assault and other offences, Lee said.
