Armed robbers steal cash from Christchurch Subway and TAB outlets
Two Christchurch businesses have been targeted by armed robbers in separate incidents on Monday night.
A man claiming to have a gun threatened staff and demanded money at a Subway sandwich outlet on Stanmore Rd in Linwood about 7.40pm, police said.
"He got the cash, an unknown amount, and ran off," Senior Sergeant Matt Tiernan said.
Armed police responded and were interviewing staff and witnesses.
Just 40 minutes earlier, a man armed with a knife walked into the TAB outlet on Barrington St in Spreydon, Tiernan said.
"He took some cash and ran off towards Milton St.
"He was carrying a knife or a machete."
Tiernan said the store was due to close at 7pm. An unknown amount of cash was taken.
No arrests had been made in either case, he said, but the Criminal Investigation Branch was investigating.
