Critically injured Alexandra crash victim Scott Millar's condition improves
The condition of a driver who was critically injured in a fatal Central Otago car crash has improved.
Scott Millar, 19, of Ranfurly, was critically injured in the crash that killed 19-year-old apprentice plumber Ravineel Sharma, of Alexandra.
Millar had been driving the Nissan car he, Sharma and another 19-year-old were in when it crashed into a tree on Coates Rd, Alexandra just before midnight on Thursday.
Police said alcohol and speed were factors in the "completely preventable" crash.
Millar was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital where he remained in a serious, but stable condition, hospital staff said on Sunday.
The rear-seat passenger received minor injuries in the crash.
Less than two hours before the crash killed Sharma, his father turned up to the garage he was at give him a ride home, but the teenager told him: "Dad, don't worry, I'll be dropped back by friends".
Police inquiries into the crash were continuing.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation was asked to call police on (03) 440 25000, ext 34400.
