Man seriously injured after fall from rail overbridge in Dunedin

A 45-year-old man was seriously injured after a fall from a bridge in Dunedin on Thursday evening.

A man has been seriously injured after falling from a bridge in Dunedin.

Emergency services were called to an area near Lindsay Rd, in Caversham, about 6.35pm on Thursday.

It is understood the 45-year-old man fell up to 8 metres from a rail overbridge near State Highway 1.

Firefighters were called to winch the man from the tracks using a stokes basket, a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said.

"We worked with St John to stabilise and move the patient," he said.

A St John spokesman said the man suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance.
