A man who robbed a Christchurch supermarket was arrested shortly after on Clyde Rd.

A knife-wielding man threatened staff at peak time at a Christchurch supermarket before driving off with a box of beers.

The man entered SuperValue on Wairakei Rd, between Greers Rd and Springbank St, about 6.15pm on Thursday, a police spokeswoman said.

He pulled out a knife and threatened the shop assistant before grabbing the alcohol and leaving in a vehicle.

Police found the car on Clyde Rd – a five-minute drive away. The offender was found and arrested shortly after, she said.
