Motorists on the Lewis Pass are back on track following a truck and trailer crash.

Drivers were asked to avoid State Highway 7 at Mouse Point Rd, Hurunui, while the vehicle was removed from the scene on Wednesday morning.

NZ Transport Agency journey manager Tresca Forrester said one trailer had been emptied and and towed away and a second was in the process of being emptied.

Police previously said the road would be closed from 7am, but Forrester said that had been avoided and traffic was flowing normally.

The road would be briefly closed about 2pm to remove the second trailer, she said.

The site was being managed with stop/go signs in meantime.

The crash happened just after 3.30am on Wednesday, a police statement said.

The truck was blocking one lane, police said.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash, which happened on Mouse Point Rd, between Caithness Rd and Flintoff Mouse Point Rd – the main road between Culverden and the Hanmer Springs turn off.
