A 95-year-old man has died in hospital a week after he was injured in a crash in north Christchurch.

A police spokeswoman said the man had been in Christchurch Hospital since the two-car crash at the intersection of State Highway 1 (Main North Rd) and Dickeys Rd, Belfast, at 4.06pm on October 6.

"He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries as a precaution after the crash and has remained there since."

The man died from his injuries early on Friday morning, she said.

The police serious crash unit would investigate the crash and were photographing the scene on Friday.

Christchurch Transport Operations Centre spokesman Luke Thomas said Dickeys Rd was closed for the police operation for just over an hour.

The road had reopened by 10.15am.
