A police spokewoman said it was understood the driver of this truck swerved to avoid another motorist before rolling on Evans St/SH1 near Timaru.

State Highway 1 has been closed, just north of Timaru, after a truck rolled at 2.22pm on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman said police understood the truck had rolled after its driver swerved to avoiding hitting another vehicle which had been pulling out onto Evans St/SH1 just north of the Timaru CBD.

The truck had "clipped" the other vehicle and rolled, the spokeswoman said.

SH1, just north of Timaru, has been closed after this truck rolled as the driver swerved to avoid another motorist.

SH1, just north of Timaru, has been closed after this truck rolled as the driver swerved to avoid another motorist.

Following the crash there was a large amount of debris and fuel "all over the road", she said.

The truck driver was being treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle had no injuries, she said.

The crash would require a "big clean up" and SH1,   between Macdonald St and Grants Road, would be closed for at least 30 minutes, she said.

Detours were available.
