Woman killed in crash near Temuka named
Police have named the woman who was killed in a two-vehicle crash near Temuka in South Canterbury on Wednesday afternoon.
She was 80-year-old Ann Margaret Jones, from Geraldine.
Jones was initially critically injured in the crash, which happened about 2.35pm on State Highway 1, near Temuka.
Jones and her male passenger were transported by ambulance to Timaru Hospital's Emergency Department, where she later died from her injuries, Sergeant Mike van der Heyden, of Temuka said.
Van der Heyden was unsure of the extent of the passenger's injuries.
It appeared the car was parked to the side of the northbound lane of the highway, about 100 metres south of where it met Arowhenua Rd, before the crash, he said.
It was understood the car pulled onto the road, colliding with a northbound van.
The van driver was not injured.
State Highway 1 was closed for several hours due to the crash, and reopened about 8.30pm on Wednesday.
The serious crash investigation unit was investigating the crash.
