Air NZ plane decontaminated after white powder found on board
An Air NZ plane has been decontaminated at Auckland International Airport after a white powder was found on board on Sunday afternoon.
Baggage was yet to be loaded for flight NZ125 from Auckland to Melbourne when the discovery was made, and emergency services were alerted.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-9, and no passengers were on board at the time.
Daniel Nicholson, northern shift manager for Fire and Emergency, said three appliances attended the callout.
"We are dealing with a small quantity of white substance that has been spilt in the forward hold," he said.
"We are currently removing and containing the substance."
It's understood no dangerous goods were listed on the manifest.
Air NZ spokeswoman Kelly Kilgour said the powder had since been identified as a non-hazardous substance and had been cleared up.
Due to a separate engineering issue the flight was delayed from 3.15pm to a revised departure time of 6.40pm.
