The views are spectacular everywhere you turn.

The views are spectacular everywhere you turn.

With theme parks in the middle of malls, Unesco World Heritage Sites that contain discoveries from the "Age of Reptiles" and waffles in the shape of beavers, I fell in love with the quirkiness of Alberta on a recent trip.

Banff is a must-visit: The gateway to the Rockies, the views are spectacular everywhere you turn. Make sure you get yourself to The Bison on Bear Street for a Banff culinary experience. The views are stunning and the ribs amazing! Prepare to get messy.

If you've got room for more, venture to Beaver Tails. You'll be served desert made from fried dough in the shape of a beaver – drool.

There should always be room for retail therapy on any holiday. In Alberta you want to do this at West Edmonton Mall. Packed with 800 stores, an amusement park and water park, you'll not get bored.

Dinosaur Provincial Park is a Unesco World Heritage Site that just begs to be explored. In no other place have such a large number of dinosaur bones been found in such a small area – more than 40 species and 400 skeletons.

In the peak of summer, it's very hot so make sure you dress for the weather.
