Vegan travel blogger receives death and rape threats in NZ

A vegan travel blogger who posted an emotional video criticising livestock farming, says she received death and rape threats while in New Zealand.

Kristin Lajeunesse uploaded a tearful video aboard the Interislander ferry when she saw a truck filled with live sheep.

In a new video, Lajeunesse said the backlash from New Zealanders quickly became vile and frightening.

She said the backlash had been the most overwhelming and negative thing to have ever happened to her.

Although the experience had made Lajeunesse fearful in New Zealand, she wanted to comeback to continue to promote vegan ideals, she said.

Lajeunesse said it was disappointing to receive such a huge backlash while in a country known for its friendliness.

"It's a bit upsetting that this experience happened in a country that's built its reputation on being friendly, and the people here being really kind ... That added a bit to the shock," she said.

Lajeunesse posted the original video while on a promotional trip in New Zealand.

In the video she said the beauty of the Marlborough Sounds was corrupted by the inhumanity of the livestock shipment.

"I came to the back of the boat because I thought it would be, you know, beautiful ... It all seems kind of pointless now," she said, to an audience of over 400,000 people.

Her latest video, titled "The Truth Behind The New Zealand Sheep Video", had been shared by Vegan Travel, the company that sponsored her trip.

Lajeunesse travels the world writing about vegan tourism for her own social media channels and travel companies.
