ANIKA MOA: CHOP CHOP HIYAAA!: Mon, July 17
The wonderful magic show of Anika Moa and the Chop Chop Hiyaaa! is going to be in Hamilton as part of the tour of the North Island during the school holidays. The show features Anika Moa albums Songs for Bubbas and Songs for Bubbas 2 and takes children on a ride filled with animals and a witch. The show is 45 minutes of jam-packed singing, dancing and fun. It will be held at the Agora Event Centre, Hamilton, with two sessions on Monday - 10am and 1pm. Tickets can be purchased online at NZTix.
CHIEFS V BRUMBIES: Sat, July 15
Good news! It may be cold over the weekend, but Saturday is going to be sunny. And there's nothing better than afternoon rugby watching the Chiefs take on the Brumbies at home. This will be Cruden, Kerr-Barlow and Lowe's last home game for the Chiefs. The Chiefs will need to win and hope the Crusaders beat the Hurricanes. They could even face the Brumbies again, but in Canberra next weekend. Kickoff is 5.15pm.
THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF TRON: Fri, Sat
The Wonderful Wizard of Tron is the perfect performance for the kids to watch during the school holidays. The story is about a girl who is mysteriously transported through her smartphone to the magical land of Tron, where technology comes alive, including scary computer viruses and online trolls. It's a modern take on the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Meteor Theatre will showcase the play this week, with two performances on Friday, 1-2pm and 7.30-8.30pm, and Saturday, 10.30-11.30am and 1-2pm. Tickets are $15 adult, $8 child. Suitable for ages 5 to 18.
TAUPO HOBBY EXPO: Sat, Sun
If you're into model trains, railways, cars, boats, and planes, then this is the expo for you! The Taupo Hobby Expo is on this weekend, run by the Taupo Model Railway Club. Each year, model rail clubs come from around the region, bringing their travelling layouts of all styles and sizes. It is held at the Taupo Events Centre on Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 10am-3pm. Tickets are door sales only: $8 for adults, $4 for children and $20 for a family pass. There will also be flags, books, a bouncy castle and Lego.
WAIKATO POULTRY & PIGEON CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW: Sat, Sun
The 15th Waikato Poultry and Pigeon Club Championship Show is on this weekend at Hamilton Gardens. There are lots of clubs from all over New Zealand coming to showcase a wide variety of poultry, including bantams, ducks, pigeons and more.Tickets are $5 at the door, with children under 16 free. Saturday hours are noon-5pm and Sunday's are 9am-noon.
