What's on this weekend in the Waikato: August 18-20
KORONEIHANA: 18-21, August
The annual Koroneihana commemorations are on this weekend, celebrating the reigning Māori monarch. The coronation occasion will attract thousands to Turangawaewae Marae in Ngaruawahia. There will be cultural performances, sports competitions, education expo and other festivities for people to be a part of.
STEAMFEST: 19-20 August
Do not miss the Steamfest down in Otorohanga this weekend, celebrating the golden era of steam, vintage, heritage and people over the weekend. There is so much to do! Catch a Steam Locomotive with six vintage carriages to Glenbrook, Pukekohe, Hamilton then arriving back in Otorohanga on Friday night. There's also smaller journeys on a vintage train throughout the weekend. Check out lots of vintage steam trains, NZ warbirds, car clubs display and other vintage machinery. Tickets, trains and prices are on the Steamfest website. A perfect weekend for train enthusiasts so take the kids down for a fun day out.
CAT SHOW: 20 August
Cat lovers - a cat show is coming to Hamilton. Hamilton Gardens is hosting the show for six ring all breeds. Expected are many breeds of cats including siamese, exotic, persian, oriental and more. There will be judges from NZ and Australia, with the opportunity to talk to the owners and breeders if you are interested in buying a furbaby. Check out the cats and judging experience for yourself! Only $5 adult, $2 children and seniors and family pass $12. Starts at 9.30am until 3.30pm.
WEBER BROS CIRCUS:
The circus has come to Taupo town. Weber Bros Circus is back in NZ with cirque artistry, acrobatics, plenty of comedic acts, illusions and stunts. Highlights include FMX jumps, human cannonball acts and plenty of fire. Tickets can be purchased at iTicket online. There is still shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so go to their website for times.
THREE HOUSES DOWN: 19 August
The NZ reggae band Three Houses Down are in Hamilton on Saturday night, performing at The Local Tavern, Te Rapa. The group have been around for over a decade now with hits, 'Kanikapila', 'She's my woman' and 'To the moon and back'. Even better that General Fiyah will be performing also with their hit, 'Love & Affection'. Tickets are $25 and the gig is an R18 event.
