Gourmet in the Gardens: October 15

Gourmet in the Gardens is back with new stalls and entertainment. The outdoor dining experience offers gourmet cuisine and products from the Waikato. People are encouraged to bring picnic rugs and eat while listening to local musicians. It's an ideal evening in the sun  on the Rhododendron Lawn at Hamilton Gardens every Sunday from 4 to 8pm starting October 15. 

Climb against Cancer: October 13-14

A 24-hour nonstop relay on the Ngaruawahia Hakarimata track to support cancer victims. The event starts at 6pm on Friday and runs to 6pm on Saturday. Fancy dress is optional and there will be a barbecue, drinks and spot prizes. Every summit climb counts and times and certificates will be given at the finish. Registration and disclaimer forms will be available at the caravan onsite, otherwise contact Andrew on 021702817 or Heather on 0216639121 to register before the event. The organisers ask that you sign in before starting and give a donation.

Pooch racing: October 15

Pooch Racing 2017 is a fun-filled family day for you and your pet pooch. Enter your dog in a 100-metre race on the Greyhound track at the Cambridge Raceway or go along for the spectacle. If entering your pooch, you will need one person to release your dog at the start line and one person to catch your dog at the finish line. Your admission ticket covers two people and one dog to enter one race, with the option to also enter best fancy dress or best performing dog. The Cambridge Raceway is on Taylor St in Cambridge and the event will be held on Sunday from 9am to 3.30pm. There will also be a charity auction for Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust and High-Performance New Zealand Athlete races for entertainment.

Equidays: October 13-15

Equidays is New Zealand's premier equine event, featuring three days of equestrian action. There are over 40 hours of clinics each day, elite competitions, three night shows and over 200 exhibitors. Held at Mystery Creek Events Centre from Friday to Sunday, the event promises to educate, equip, empower and entertain visitors. Tickets are $25 for an adult and $15 for a child and are available from the Equidays website.

Taupo Ultramarathon: October 14

Tackle the 14km, 24km, 50km, 74km, 100km or the 100km team's relay option at the Taupo Ultramarathon this weekend. The Taupo event offers runners a once-a-year opportunity to access the Great Lake Trail uninterrupted over private land. It's an epic journey that showcases lake views, mountain ranges, rivers, waterfalls and native forest. The event takes place on Saturday from 6am to midnight at the Whakaipo Bay Recreation Reserve, Mapara Road. For information visit the Taupo Ultra website.
