Car catches fire after crash south of Hamilton

The crash happened on the stretch of Raynes Road which is between Narrows Road and Sharpe Road.

Flames took hold of a car after a two-vehicle crash on the outskirts of Hamilton.

The crash happened on Raynes Road, Rukuhia, around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Everyone was out of the vehicle which caught fire, a police spokeswoman said.

One of the cars was well ablaze by the time firefighters arrived, Fire Northern Communications shift manger Daniel Nicholson said.

Firefighters later reported back that they had put out flames in both cars.

St John Ambulance attended and treated one person for minor injuries.

That person was unlikely to need to go to hospital, a St John spokeswoman said.
